BRUSSELS, (Stocksak), – If countries give Brussels a mandate, the European Union could introduce a gas price limit this winter to limit price spikes.

“This Dutch TTF Gas benchmark cap, we could introduce this winter already if you get the mandate,” EU energy commissioner Kadri SIMSON told a committee made up of EU lawmakers.

Last week, the European Commission stated that it could make a legal suggestion for a temporary “dynamical” cap on the Dutch Title Transfer Facility’s (TTF) gas exchange. However, this measure would only be approved by EU countries – which they may do at a meeting with EU energy ministers on November 24.
